OSCARS 2009 dresses

The Beauty Tutor - Thursday, February 26, 2009

The theme of the night was certainly one shouldered necklines, fishtails and black nail polish.

The winner for best dressed is Kate Winslet, she really is getting better with age and looked stunning in this Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati gown.

Best Body Shape........

A few other notable dresses on the night were.....

Meryl Streep
wore a grey off-the-shoulder gown custom-made by Alberta Ferretti. The colour was a bit drab, but it was great to see her making an effort and the dress was flattering.

Best Body Shape........

Anne Hathaway wore a silver Armani Prive gown. She also performed with Hugh Jackman ( in a very unflattering dress) and did an AMAZING job; I had no idea she could sing so well!

Best Body Shape........

I just had to add Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, they are just soooo gorgeous!  Angelina looked so confident and radiant on the night.
Jolie is in a dress by Elie Saab, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Ferragamo shoes and a Lana Marks bag. Pitt wears a Tom Ford tux and shoes and David Yurman jewels.

Who do you think was best dressed? Tell us by adding your comment.

tips...

The Beauty Tutor - Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Before you go to an event, do your research and find out if its going to be held outdoors. If you will be on grass make sure you wear a stack or wedge heel. No stilettos! Also, if you are going to be standing for a while have Party Feet in your shoes.

facts...

67% of all women 15 to 64 withdraw from life-engaging activities due to feeling badly about their appearance ( among them things like giving an opinion, going to school, going for a job interview...)

gloves; A hot purchase for the cold months

The Beauty Tutor - Thursday, February 19, 2009

With the weather so cold outside, its certainly hard to believe that Winter stock is in-store.
It certainly is and what ends of happening is that by the time it is actually cold, some items have already sold out.

Country Road do a fantastic range of gloves each year and now is the time to snap them up before they sell-out.

Check out the driving and the elbow length gloves in colours from Black, Red, Chocolate and Beige.
From $79.95

Domestic Blitz; Thank you!

The Beauty Tutor - Thursday, February 05, 2009

Lucy from the Domestic Blitz episode has sent me a lovely email which I wanted to share with you......

I really want to THANK YOU SO MUCH for everything you did for us!  We adore the clothes and even more than that we enjoyed the whole experience with you.  We know just how much planning and organising went into our shopping spree before we even arrived at The Strand.  The Personal Style Guides are icing on a very lavish cake, I can fully understand why you are so successful with your business.

Thank you so much for painting my nails too (did you know I was going to get my engagement ring back?) and please thank Julie for doing such a wonderful job on my makeup - it made me feel like a million dollars in my new posh frock!

You made us completely at ease at being so spoilt, we could both get used to it!  It felt so wonderful to be a part of such a great event, I still don't know what we have done to deserve it but we will never take a moment of it for granted.

DOMESTIC BLITZ Diary

The Beauty Tutor - Tuesday, February 03, 2009

9:00am
I arrived at the Swissotel in Market Street Sydney to meet Richard and the production crew. After a bit of time to discuss the game plan and to get wired for sound we were into filming.

Our first sequence was for Richard and I to film discussing our 'secret mission' in the lift and then exit the lift.....easy enough right? Well in a busy hotel it's very difficult to get the lift door to do what you need it to. We turned a few times to run into a closed door, ended up a few floors up and then finally got the timing perfect.

10:00am
Then it was meeting Lucy, Jacko, Maddy and Bruno and to talk about what we had planned for the day.

When I told Lucy we were shopping in the city she was sooo excited because she knows there are no BIG W or Targets in the city which is where she normally shops.

Lucy is very bubbly, fun and friendly and Jacko is quietly spoken with a soft heart of gold. Maddy and Bruno were so amazingly patient considering we filmed the same sequence quite a few times. They really are very beautiful children and could not stop laughing from the tickles from Richard between takes.

I completed a Body Shape Analysis, Colours and a questionnaire for both Lucy and Jacko. Some of the information is very personal so I requested that this not be filmed. The more information people tell me and the more open they are the better I can help.

11:00am
With only being given 15 minutes to pack and after checking what clothes they had with them I knew we were going to have some fun buying new clothes for a fabulous dinner (and at that stage still secret) that night.

Grandma and Grandpa arrived as a surprise to look after Maddy and Bruno who were so excited to be able to head off to the movies and even more excited about the popcorn they were given!

12:30pm
We all headed down to The Strand Arcade in Sydney which is a gorgeous building housing Australias top designers. A perfect location to help two very special people. Richard Reid is quite a celebrity and was stopped a lot to have photos with people before we started filming. He is very genuine and very funny and was more than happy to chat to people. Simone our very lovely producer got us back on track and into filming.

The Strand donated $2000 gift vouchers to Lucy and 'Jacko'! What a fantastic amount of money to spend and spend we did!

1:30pm
First stop was Lucy's dress which we purchased from Lisa Ho. Lucy has a gorgeous petite figure which I really wanted to show off. She has the most amazing blue-green eyes which were shown off in the green dress. The dress was actually a size too big so I taped her in with 'First Aid' Fashion Tape which seemed to do the job for the camera. (We later had one couriered back to the hotel for her to change into later that afternoon.)

2:00pm
Jacko was next and we headed next doorto Farage which has a fantastic range and is exquisite quality. Jacko has a great physique and the most amazing grey-blue eyes. The shirt that I had chosen for him from Farage was absolutely perfect and really showed them off.

It was really important to purchase Lucy and Jacko outfits that they would wear again. I am really not into a 'band-aid' approach to fashion and tv.

In saying that, a suit, shoes and shirt were what Jacko needed in his wardrobe and they were certainly something that he would wear time and time again.

3:00pm
Now that we had all the outfits we had to get ready for them both to be picked up at 4pm and it was already 3pm! Julie The Beauty Tutor Make Up artist extraordinaire was waiting in the foyer at the hotel and while Julie set up her kit, Lucy had a quick shower, I laid everything out for her and then we got to work. While Lucy was having her makeup done I was painting her finger nails and toes nails.

Jacko, who loves ironing was putting the finishing touches on his outfit and ironing his shirt.

4:00pm
Rush, rush, rush and we did it!

How gorgeous do they look!

Jacko looks so handsome and was standing so tall and proud, Lucy was looking confident, happy and stunning in her very pretty dress and fab make up. Despite missing lunch and being in a mad rush they were so happy.

All in all it was a VERY fun, VERY rewarding and ACTION PACKED day!

A plug for Lucy...

On top of Lucy's charity work and being a busy mum of 2 children she also has a very cute brand called Beautiful Soles. They are 100% suede leather and come in an amazing array of colours.

Lucy Jackson not only cares for Bruno on a daily basis, she is also secretary of the VCFS Foundation, helping other families to understand the effects of Velo-Cardio Facial Syndrome (VCFS). She is a human dynamo who is devoted to raising funds and awareness of this little known condition.
